IMPORTANT

Total number of hours to be worked per week cannot exceed 19 hours while taking classes (if employed by multiple departments, the total combined must not exceed 19 hours). Student workers may work full-time during interim periods (between semesters) and during summer if grant funds are available. Position is paid bi-weekly and must earn no less than $7.25 per hour. Student employment appointments are for one semester and may be renewed on a semester-by-semester basis. Renewal will be dictated by student demand and/or departmental needs.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a high visibility, front-line position requiring prompt, courteous customer service to a full range of library users; strong attention to detail, high-energy level and flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs all duties and responsibilities within the Access Services department, which include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Checking in/out library items.
  • Answering routine library questions, including computer lab/printing questions.
  • Assisting with opening/closing procedures.
  • Assisting with general stack maintenance; shelving, shelf reading, and shifting.
  • Each student, individually, may be assigned personal duties/projects to assist librarians as needed.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have work-study permit, issued by Financial Aid, for current semester.
  • Must be currently enrolled undergraduate for Texas A&M University-Commerce.
  • Punctual with excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and to be professional.
  • Display exemplary attitude and work habits, including trustworthiness and attention to detail.
  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Duties will require lifting of boxes, shelving library materials, and loading/unloading, pushing, and maneuvering carts of books weighing 20-50 pounds and possibly up to 300 pounds. Must be able to handle material, which can contain dust, food crumbs, or microscopic mold spores.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Must be flexible and willing to work any shift which could include nights, evenings, and weekends. All student employees are required to work one closing shift.

Monday (11:00am-2:00pm) (7:00pm-1:00am, closing)

Tuesday (11:00am-2:00pm) (4:00pm-8:00pm) (9:00pm-1:00am, closing)

Thursday (11:00am-2:00pm) (4:00pm-8:00pm) 9:00pm-1:00am, closing)

Friday (11:00am-2:00pm) (11:00am-4:00pm)

Saturday (1:00pm-5:00pm) (4:00pm-9:00pm, closing)
