Residential Living and Learning Mission
Residential Living and Learning (RLL) is an integral part of the University experience; creating safe, supportive, inclusive communities that foster personal and academic growth.
Position Overview
The Marketing Assistant (MA) position supports the Residential Living and Learning staff by creating and managing content that supports programming, events, and community initiatives. This role involves content creation, social media management, graphic design, and digital marketing, with a focus on fostering community engagement and improving awareness of department resources and events. The MA position will work closely with RLL staff to ensure all communications align with the department’s mission and values, engagement students with vibrant, relevant, and informative content.
Responsibilities
The description provides an outline of major responsibilities but is not an exhaustive list. Throughout the year, staff will be called to provide assistance based on the community's needs. Residential Living and Learning need to be flexible and adaptive regarding additional assigned duties.
- Social Media Management: Create, schedule, and post content across Residential Living and Learning social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) to engage students and promote housing events, resources, and deadlines.
- Event Promotion: Assist with the marketing and promotion of events, including crafting flyers, graphics, and email templates to drive student attendance and engagement.
- Content Creation: Design and produce visual content such as infographics, posters, digital ads, and video clips highlighting housing resources, services, and community life.
- Email Campaign Support: Draft and edit email communications to students, parents, and staff to announce important dates, updates, and resources, ensuring messaging aligns with branding.
- Photo and Video Coverage: Capture photos and videos at Residential Living and Learning events and around residential communities to be used in future promotional materials.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Assist in gathering engagement metrics from social media and email campaigns, creating basic reports on reach, engagement, and student feedback for the marketing team.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all marketing materials follow Residential Living and Learning and University brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent visual identity across all platforms.
- Student Engagement Initiatives: Support initiatives to enhance student engagement, such as contests, surveys, and Q&A sessions on social media, to gather feedback and strengthen the sense of community.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the Residential Living and Learning team, including managing promotional materials inventory, responding to routine inquiries, and assisting with logistics for events and marketing initiatives.
Contract Term
Marketing Assistant contracts for the Spring 2025 semester will begin on January 13, 2025 and end on May 9, 2025.
Please note that if semester start/ end dates are altered the contract term is subject to change.
Job Position Requirement
- Must be enrolled as a student at ETAMU.
- Completion of application and interview as required for the selection process.
- Positive conduct with RLL and ETAMU.
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.25.
Contract Renewal
All Marketing Assistants seeking to return to the position must meet the following requirements:
- Have a successful employee evaluation.
- Positive record of conduct with RLL and the rest of campus.
- Meet or exceed GPA requirements.
- Participate in the re-hire process set forth by the Department of Residential Living and Learning
Once rehired, all MAs will be evaluated on team fit and community needs for the upcoming academic year and placed accordingly.
University Training Requirement
As student staff members, Marketing Assistants are also employees of the State of Texas and are required to participate in the completion of all training provided through Human Resources. Failure to adhere to university training will result in disciplinary action.
Compensation
Marketing Assistants will be paid $12/hour on a biweekly basis. The MA is responsible for logging all hours in the Texas A&M University Single Sign On (SSO) system and may not work over 19 hours on campus.
Confidentiality
Marketing Assistants have the responsibility and duty to protect the privacy of students, including former students and fellow staff members. Unauthorized release of confidential information is strictly prohibited, and the MAs will be subject to employee discipline, which could include termination on the first offense.
Amorous Relations
All dating, sexual, and amorous relationships with a student/resident/RLL staff member must be communicated to your immediate supervisor. Residential Living and Learning will work to remove the potential conflict, which may require the MA or the resident to be reassigned to another location.
Relationships that exist prior to hiring and/or during the hiring process must be reported to the hiring manager so that any necessary accommodations can be made that will relieve the direct influence of power. Failure to report any amorous relationship may result in employee discipline, which could include but is not limited to, termination.
Employee Discipline Guidelines
Depending on the nature of the concern or violation made by a Marketing Assistant, the supervisor will determine the level of discipline in conjunction with the Assistant Directors and/or the Associate Director of Residence Education.
The following provides a guideline of the progressive disciplinary process for Residential Living and Learning:
NOTE: These sanctions levels are meant to serve as guidelines only. Depending on the specific situation, it may be appropriate to skip a level in the process or issue a more serious sanction.
- Verbal Warning
- Written Warning
- Letter of Reprimand
- Suspension or Termination
In cases involving the possible termination of a Marketing Assistant, the supervisor and Assistant Directors or Associate Director will need to determine whether it is in the department’s best interest to extend or increase the disciplinary status or to dismiss the MA. However, it is important to note that if a serious violation occurs, termination may be immediate and may not warrant the progressive discipline that has been presented.
Evaluations
- The supervisor will meet with the Marketing Assistants initially on an individual and staff basis to review the job description, establish goals, and outline expectations for the semester. The supervisor will meet with each MA routinely throughout the semester to review progress, performance, skill development, etc.
- A mid-year and end-of-the-year evaluation will be conducted.
